Fine Art & Antiques International Removals from Scotland

Antiques and Fine Art Specialist Movers

When Ordinary Removals
Just Won't Do

Fine art, antiques, sculptures, and heirlooms are not simply belongings. The are irreplaceable investments and expressions of a life’s passion. Moving them internationally demands a level of care, expertise, and accountability that general removal companies cannot provide. Here at Euromovers Scotland, part of the Purdie Worldwide Group, we have over six decades of experience handling culturally significant, high-value, and fragile objects to and from Scotland, the rest of the UK, and destinations across the globe.

We understand that entrusting your prized collection to a removals company is an act of faith. Our role is to earn that trust through meticulous planning, specialist craftsmanship, and clear communication at every stage of the journey. From a single Georgian oil painting destined for New York, to an entire contents removal including antique furniture, ceramic, and sculptures, we treat every removal commission with te same professional high standards.

Our Fine Art & Antiques Service: What's Included

Professional and Fully Trained Staff

Pre-Move Survey & Condition Reporting

Every fine art commission begins with a thorough pre-move survey carried out by our specialist team. Although we can conduct virtual surveys, for high value and sentimental items, we feels it’s best to see them in person. Using our own bespoke software we document the condition of each items before it is handled, creating a comprehensive written and photographic record that serves as both a planning tool and a baseline for insurance purposes. This condition report travels with the shipment and is reviewed again on arrival, providing absolute accountability throughout the journey. Any pre-existing damage, fragility, or structural concern is noted and communicated to you before packing begins, so there are no chance of surprises.

Bespoke Crating and Custom Packaging

No two artworks are alike, and no two-creates should be either. Our in-house joiner from Purdie Property Maintenance, designs and builds bespoke time crates, foam lines cases, and archival grade packaging solutions tailored to the specific dimensions, weight and fragility of each object. Canvases are protected against vibration and pressure changes, sculptures are cushioned in custom-cut foam cradles, antique furniture is wrapped in acid-free paper before being wrapped with export-wrap for added protection. We understand how valuable antiques can be and that’s why we only use archival, pH-neutral materials to prevent chemical interaction across delicate surfaces over the course of an international journey.

Climate-Controlled Storage & Transit Options

Temperature and humidity fluctuations are among the greatest threats to fine art and antique objects during international transit. Our climate-controlled storage facilities in West Lothian maintain stable conditions year round (it wouldn’t be the first time the staff have headed to the stores to cool off on a hot day!). For sea-freight consignments, we select specialist art-handling shipping containers with vented climate control to ensure a safe environment for transporting goods. For time-sensitive or ultra high value commissions, we can arrange air freight services, but these come at a premium cost.

CITES Compliance & Export Licencing

Many antiques and decorative objects (items containing ivory, tortoise shell, certain hardwoods, coral, or other restricted materials) are subjected to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regulations. This governs their movement across international borders. Navigating these requirements incorrectly can result in seizure, large fines, and reputational damage. Our team here at Euromovers are very familiar with CITES documentation requirements and can advise you on whether objects require permits, assist with the application process, and ensure all paperwork accompanies the shipment correctly.

In addition to CITES, certain antiques and works of art may require UK export licences, particularly items of national cultural significance or objects over specified age and value thresholds. We can guide you through the UK export licencing process and liaise with the Art Council England Export Licencing Unit on your behalf where required.

Agreed-Value Insurance

Standard removals insurance is calculated on a volume basis or deprecated replacement basis. However, this method is wholly inadequate for fine art and antiques, where market value, provenance, and rarity are the determining factors. We arrange agreed-value specialist fine art insurance for every valuable consignment, meaning that in the unlikely event of a claim, you receive the full insured value agreed at the outset rather than a depreciated or disputed figure. We work with specialist marine and fine art underwriters who understand the true value of cultural property and assess the risk appropriately. We strongly recommend providing recent independent valuations or auction records for significant pieces of art in order to support an accurate level of insurance cover.

White-Glove Delivery & Installation

Our international fine-art service doesn’t end at the destination door. Our fine-art and antiques team are trained in careful unpacking, condition re-inspection, and where requested, installation services including picture hanging, sculpture placement, and even furniture positioning. We take the same care unpacking as we do packing, and we leave no trace, with all packaging materials removed and disposed of responsibly. A final condition check is completed against the pre-move report before we get final sign-off and consider the job completed.

White-Glove Delivery & Installation

High value collections attract unwanted attention. We operate with complete discretion. If chosen to we can provide unmarked or liveried vehicles without reference to the nature of the cargo. Our team members operate under strict confidentiality obligations, and we never disclose details of clients, collections, or routes to third parties unless requested. Collection security is built into every aspect of our planning, from route selection through to the timing of collection and delivery. So you know that choosing Euromovers to ship your fine-art collection is the safe move.

International Fine Art Destinations

From our secure base in West Lothian, Central Scotland, we move fine art and antiques across Europe, to North America, the Middle East, Australasia, and beyond. Our Euromovers international network give us trusted handling partners in major art-market cities like New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Dubai, Sydney and Amsterdam, ensuring that our standard of care is maintained by vetted, specialist partners at the destination end as well as throughout Scottish and UK transit.

Post-Brexit Considerations for Art & Antiques

The UK’s departure from the European Union introduced additional formalities for moving art and antiques between Scotland and EU member states. Items moving to the EU now require export declarations and, in some cases, EU import declarations and VAT registration at the destination. Temporary importation of art for exhibition or sale within the EU is subject to ATA Carnet or equivalent bonded transit arrangements. Our team manages these complexities as a matter of course. We have handled post-Brexit logistics since day one and are fully compliant with the ever evolving EU customs requirements for cultural property.
